Beta Testing Program

I’m excited to announce the limited 3-week private beta program for my new dust collection system design launching Friday, October 17, 2025 at 4:00PM.

This beta gives you early access to my part dust collection designs before the physical product is released. I’m limiting the number of beta testers per digital listing to ensure quality feedback and support.

For this first round, I’m starting with three DeWalt miter saw models: DWS713, DWS715, and DWS716. Now available on my shop page.


More brands and models will follow in future.

Program Overview

The goal of this beta testing program is to evaluate the dust collection system’s fitment, alignment, performance, and overall user experience. You will need to choose the correct digital listing that matches your miter saw make and model.

Because every 3D printer, material, and slicer setting performs differently, some fine-tuning may be required for optimal fit. The design has been validated within a tolerance range of ±0.2 mm (SLA) and ±0.4 mm (FDM). Ensuring your printer is properly calibrated will help achieve the best results.

Important: The downloadable file does not include hardware. You are required to install all hardware securely before operating the miter saw. A material list and installation notes will be provided. Always confirm that every fastener and part is fully secured and aligned prior to any operation. The saw must remain powered off and unplugged during installation and adjustment.

If your printed parts don’t align perfectly, you can adjust, trim for clearance, or lightly sand contact areas. A hardware material list will be provided to help you source the correct fasteners.

This testing helps confirm real-world compatibility across different setups and allows me to refine the final production design before public release.

  • Requirement: Submit basic feedback using the form provided at checkout, including notes, photos, or videos, before the testing period ends.

Beta Participation Terms

By taking part, you agree to the following:

  • Non-Distribution: Files may not be shared, sold, remixed, redesigned for sale, or redistributed.
  • Intended Use Only: You may not share, sell, redistribute, remix, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works for personal or commercial gain.
  • Provide Feedback: Feedback must be submitted within the 2-week testing window.
  • No Liability: Files are provided as-is. By The Grain is not responsible for printer failures, installation issues, equipment damage, or injury.
  • Limited Access: Files are available only during the beta period.
  • Intellectual Property: All listing digital files, designs, and related materials remain the exclusive property of By The Grain. Files are provided solely for personal testing and feedback purposes. 

Purchasing the beta file confirms your acknowledgment and agreement to these terms.

What Happens After Purchase

Once the beta program opens, you’ll be able to:

  • Add the beta test digital file to your cart, input your email and agree to the terms.
  • Complete checkout to receive:
    • Emailed confirmation to complete a Nondisclosure Agreement
    • Once the NDA has been signed, a download link will be forwarded to you
    • The full Beta Participation Terms Agreement document
    • A link to submit feedback from your experience

Miter Saw Safety Best Practices

  • Always disconnect power before installing or removing any dust collection components.
  • Verify all parts are securely mounted before starting the saw.
  • Keep hands clear of the blade path and moving parts.
  • Allow the saw blade to come to a complete stop before lifting it to prevent offcuts from being launched.
  • Never operate the saw without proper safety gear (eye protection, hearing protection, and dust mask).
  • Inspect all 3D printed attachments for cracks or weakness before each use.
  • Use By The Grain Dust Collection System in accordance with these safety practices and your miter saw manufacturer’s instructions.
